Kaolak Orchid Beach Resort

Once in a while, it is essential to recharge your batteries by being as close to the nature as possible, and as far as you can get from the city without getting lost forever. Khaolak Orchid Beach Resort fits the bill with a supreme location and wonderfully discreet service.

Just over an hour from Phuket International Airport in a transport van, we were in Khao Lak, Phang-nga which is infinitely quieter and more peaceful than Phuket’s bustling centre scene in Patong. A mere ten minutes from the centre of Khao Lak with its clusters of shops, restaurants, and cafes, the van parked up at Khuk Khak beach. Entering this serene haven and looking to your right, you see an endless stretch of golden sand shaded by coconut trees and on your left, the resort’s low-rise buildings built in a colonial style and set amidst verdant garden.

Due to the fact that there are no other hotels or resort nearby,  the beach is left in tranquility and is more or less privately access by just the guests of the resort. Complemented by the vast expand of pristine land outside, the resort features a spacious and airy common area within. The lobby has a super high ceiling, overlooking the swimming pool beyond where a joyful bunch of toddler-guests were having fun jumping in as we arrived. For those looking to relax in peace minus the  laughter of the young ones, there is an adults-only-pool at the other end of the resort. Wooden sun beds are dotted all over the lawns as well as down on the beach. It seemed as though wherever and whenever I was thinking about sitting down to take in the views and the ambience, a sun bed would always be there.

Khaolak Orchid Beach Resort boasts incredibly spacious accommodation. Even the basic Deluxe Room covers over 40 square metres, not counting the sea view balcony with its set of wooden table and chairs. The daybed is the ideal spot to unwind or go through your favourite book while being connected to the beautiful natural scenery outdoors. The generous size of the beds is also great. Shower units and bathtubs are separated, both equipped with amenities. On-site staff are friendly and ready to help. They might not be fluent in English but they surely understand you and exceed expectations.

Overlooking the Andaman Sea is the resort’s open-air Verve 29 Bar & Restaurant which serve amazingly delectable food and drink. Although the menu does not appear to be as thick as a thesis like elsewhere, there’s enough variety to satisfy every palate. Do not miss their Caesar Salad for the rich creamy sauce generously spread all over the fresh organic veggies! It’s a simple dish, yet a perfect start to an enjoyable meal. Thai appetizers come with striking decoration and taste divine as well. Breakfast is served in an extensive buffet room at Frangrans Restaurant. Complemented by another high ceiling, the restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere with vast choices of both international and local dishes. There’s also a Swim-up Bar at the edge of the main swimming pool to satiate thirst and hunger while you chill out by or even in the pool as well. Watch out for the special deals at particular hours too.

Having a massage in one of the open-air Thai salas set amidst verdant gardens while listening to the sounds of nature harmonizing with the wind chime hanging from the roof was sheer bliss. The cherry of the pie was its unbelievably reasonable bill. Khao Lak is also a great hub to explore the beauty of the underwater world as well. Day trips to the Similans, James Bond Island, and the latest paradise-on-earth, Ta Chai Island can be made conveniently, as it is a mere 15 minutes from the resort to the pier.

Due to the province’s regulations trying hard to preserve the serenity of the area, Khao Lak might feel a little too quiet for adventure-seekers or nightlife-lovers. Thus, if you fit into either of those categories, you might find it too quiet or boring here. On a different note, it leaves the beach in pure tranquility and perfect for those wanting to just unwind, ffl
